South Dakota Veterans Home Miscellaneous Projects The historic campus of the South Dakota State Veterans Home is sited on a hillside overlooking the town and much of the historic campus has been retained over the years including the main building. The work included several renovations to the historic structures. The original 1889 historic cut stone main building now serves as the administrative building for the campus. The windows were drafty, shingles in disrepair and missing or undersized gutters were damaging the stone façade below. Working closely with the State Historic Preservation Office and the requirements of Section 106, a historic window replacement was undertaken that restored the façade to its historic appearance along with roofing replacement and right-sized gutters while restoring a rooftop flagpole to its historic location.
